UAE Powerlifting Team Triumphs with 21 Medals at West Asia Championship in Qatar


Doha: The UAE national powerlifting team achieved a remarkable feat by securing 21 medals at the West Asia Classic Powerlifting Cup 2025, which concluded today in Qatar. The event saw participation from 10 countries, showcasing intense competition.



According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE team amassed a total of 7 gold, 6 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Abdulrahman Al Junaibi was a standout performer, claiming one gold and three silver medals in the 63kg category. John Andous also excelled, securing one gold, one silver, and one bronze in the 105kg category.



Mohammed Al Kaabi contributed to the medal tally with one gold and three bronze medals in the 93kg category. In the open weight category, Walid Jammoul earned one gold and one bronze. Issa Al Marzouqi added to UAE’s success by taking a bronze in the 83kg category, along with three medals across ‘Champion of Champions,’ overall total, and Best Player awards.



Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, President of the UAE Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, extended his congratulations to the UAE sports community and the national powerlifting team for their international success. He acknowledged the dedication of the technical and administrative staff and emphasized the need to further enhance the team with talent and excellence in preparation for hosting the World Powerlifting Championship in Fujairah in June 2026.
