DUBAI: Dubai Industrial City, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by participating in a tree-planting initiative as part of the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme. This initiative underscores the importance of public-private sector cooperation in enhancing environmental sustainability and food security in the United Arab Emirates.
According to Emirates News Agency, Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, participated in the tree-planting event within Dubai Industrial City’s worker accommodation community. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts, including the ‘Our Green Emirates’ initiative and Planting Week, to promote sustainable practices and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
The initiative also aligns with Dubai Industrial City’s commitment to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the Dubai Food Security
Strategy, both of which emphasize sustainable agricultural practices and local food production. Al Harmoudi highlighted that the collaboration between Dubai Industrial City and MOCCAE exemplifies the potential of innovation and technology in achieving the UAE’s environmental and food security objectives.
During her visit, Al Harmoudi toured Sokovo Nature Farms’ advanced vertical farm situated within Dubai Industrial City’s dedicated food and beverage zone. The facility, spanning over 100,000 square feet, utilizes hydroponic systems to optimize resources, reduce water usage, and increase the yield of leafy greens and microgreens for distribution in local markets.
Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice President of Industrial at TECOM Group, emphasized the importance of nurturing innovation and fostering synergies between manufacturing and the food and beverage sector. He noted that these efforts are crucial for strengthening the UAE’s position as a leader in sustainable industrial development.
The partnership
between Dubai Industrial City and MOCCAE, formalized during the launch of the Make Brilliance global awareness campaign in May 2023, further solidifies their shared commitment to advancing sustainable manufacturing practices within the industrial sector.
