Abu Dhabi: On the second day of the now-running Global Media Congress, Naim Yazbeck, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, highlighted that artificial intelligence (AI) is not a new technology, but the advent of generative AI tools has made it accessible to everyone, raising questions about the accuracy and responsibility of the information it provides. He explained that responsible AI means developing.
According to Emirates News Agency, in a session titled ‘Smart and Secure: Paving the Way for Safe AI – Charting a Path for Responsible AI Adoption’, Yazbeck noted that over 50% of conversations about new technologies currently revolve around AI, making knowledge a key driver for companies and nations aiming for responsible AI. He also stressed the importance of updating educational curricula to build the necessary skills and keep pace with rapid advancements in this field.
Hani Al Ghafili, Chairman of the Digital Economy Center, emphasised the importance of developing AI with ethical considerations and safeguard
ing information privacy. He pointed out that the increasing reliance on AI enables users to access information from diverse sources, making the role of media professionals crucial in promoting responsibility. ‘Media is a message to society,’ he said, stressing that AI requires a regulatory framework focusing on public awareness, sector-specific guidelines, and penalties for violations.
Dr. Hassan Al Hosani, CEO of Bayanat Smart Solutions, Space 42, described AI as a double-edged sword that must be approached with fairness, inclusivity, and safety to ensure transparency and protect users. He praised the UAE, particularly Abu Dhabi, for its achievements in this area, including the launch of the AI Development and Use Charter, which ensures the quality and integrity of AI applications. Al Hosani highlighted the development of Space 42’s “AID” platform, designed to support decision-making during crises and disasters, both before and after they occur, by assessing their short- and long-term impact on communities.
This platform enables authorities to take proactive measures and reassure the public. He concluded by underscoring the importance of collaboration in AI-between humans and machines for seamless decision-making, between private and public sectors, and with future generations to harness AI in nurturing young minds and building a promising future.
