Jordan, Cyprus talk economic cooperation

President of the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) Hamdi Tabbaa and the Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Giorgos Papanastasiou discussed on Wednesday joint economic, commercial and industrial cooperation. Tabbaa said that the minister’s visit to Jordan reflects the depth of the historical and interdependent ties between Jordan and Cyprus, adding that the association is committed to enhancing economic cooperation to achieve the greatest possible benefit. “Jordan is looking to become a regional logistical hub for investment and doing business and a gateway to regional markets,” he said, noting that the Kingdom’s attractiveness lies primarily in the quality of its infrastructure and its strong and dynamic banking system, as well as the level of economic openness and stable environment. He stressed that Cyprus is characterized by its rich natural resources and strong industrial base and several investment opportunities, indicating that there are many promising sectors for building strategic partnerships, including the energy, industrial, agricultural, tourism, and information technology sectors. Papanastasiou voiced his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in various fields with Jordan, highlighting a number of challenges facing Cypriot businessmen and investors in their country. He discussed the possibilities of regional electrical interconnection between Jordan and Europe via Cyprus, stressing the need to activate joint agreements, especially those related to renewable energy. He spoke about a number of areas and possibilities that businesses and investors in both nations may take advantage of to increase the number of trade and investment exchanges. He underlined his country’s desire to penetrate the Jordanian market through tourism, particularly those connected to hospitality, which is unique to his country.
