Jordanian, US health institutions forge partnership to tackle global health challenges
The National Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Centre (NEIDC) has recently entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the aim of strengthening collaborative efforts to effectively address global health challenges.
According to a statement on Tuesday, the MOU was signed by the NEIDC President, Raeda Qutob, and CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, during a delegation visit to explore the American expertise in bolstering public health capacities and response plans to diseases, epidemics, and health threats.
“The memorandum comes in recognition of the increasing global challenges posed by infectious diseases and epidemics, underscoring the vital importance of international cooperation and knowledge exchange in the realm of public health,” the statement added.
Under the MOU, both parties commit to the exchange of current information, epidemiological analyses, training and development programs, as well as collaborative efforts in disease control, epidemic response, and the advancement of healthcare workforce capabilities.
The agreement also focuses on enhancing rapid response capacities, conducting research, evaluating health policies, strengthening epidemiological surveillance and laboratory systems, and implementing robust quality management and assurance protocols.
Qutob emphasized that the collaboration with the CDC aims to tap into diverse expertise to reinforce public health capacities, refine epidemic response plans, and effectively address health threats.
“The MoU also seeks to explore best practices in ensuring biological safety and security, developing emergency preparedness plans, and implementing global health security measures,” she noted.
