NHRI Engages as Observer in Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee’s 27th Session


Cairo: The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) participated as an observer in the 27th session of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee, held on January 28th, 2025, at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo. The session focused on the second national report submitted by the UAE regarding the Arab Charter on Human Rights.



According to Emirates News Agency, the NHRI delegation was led by Chairperson Maqsoud Kruse and included notable members such as Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, NHRI Secretary-General, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Noman, Board of Trustees Member, Ameirah Al Seraidi, Board of Trustees Member, Amro Al Qahtani, Chairperson’s Office Director, and Fatima Al Hosani, Head of Awareness and Educational Section. During the session, Kruse expressed gratitude for the invitation and commended the cooperative relationship between NHRI and the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee.



Kruse used the platform to discuss NHRI’s journey since its establishment under Federal Law No. 12 of 2021. This law underscores NHRI’s independence and its operations based on the Paris Principles to promote and protect human rights. He emphasized NHRI’s commitment to building partnerships with human rights organizations at GCC, Arab, and international levels, aiming to enhance work mechanisms and cooperation in various human rights sectors. He also highlighted NHRI’s dedication to implementing its recommendations and collaborating with government and civil society to advance the UAE’s human rights sector.



Further, Kruse highlighted the critical role national institutions play in bolstering the human rights ecosystem and raising community awareness about individual rights and fundamental freedoms. NHRI is focused on developing strategies and implementation plans aligned with international best practices to achieve significant progress in rights protection and strengthening follow-up and evaluation mechanisms.



NHRI’s involvement in this session is part of its ongoing efforts to promote human rights principles and underscore the importance of regional and international collaboration in this domain. This participation aids in sustainable development and ensures that fundamental rights and freedoms are accessible to all, consistent with global best practices.



Moreover, this engagement offers a platform to exchange expertise and reinforce cooperation frameworks with relevant entities at the Arab level, reflecting the UAE’s unwavering commitment to enhancing human rights mechanisms and frameworks both regionally and internationally.
