Pakistan’s First Lady Advocates UAE Model for Women’s Empowerment at Global Forum.

Dubai: Young women should seize opportunities and learn from the UAE’s example of success in women’s representation in public service, said Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Speaking during a conversation with Hadley Gamble of Al Arabiya, at the Global Women’s Forum Dubai (GWFD 2024), she emphasized the importance of global events like GWFD in formulating policies to encourage women’s participation in public service and meaningful contribution to women’s empowerment.

According to Emirates News Agency, the session was attended by prominent figures including H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority; Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council; and Hala Badri, Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. The First Lady highlighted the progress made in the UAE as a model for others to follow, stressing the need for more platforms for women in public service to shine and mak
e a difference.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari encouraged young women to commit to uplifting others and pursuing justice, opportunity, and equality for all. She noted that women often have to work twice as hard for half the recognition as men but remain a resilient force. She also addressed global challenges faced by women, such as inequality, security, and access to healthcare and education, underscoring the power of the vote to amplify their voices.

As the youngest daughter of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and two-time Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari made history as the first daughter, rather than the wife, of an incumbent president to hold the title of First Lady. Her father, a widower, named her First Lady to ensure strong representation for women and women’s rights.

In her concluding message to young women, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari urged them to believe in themselves, remain steadfast in their values, and never underestimate the power of their voices. She emphasized that
leadership is shaped by purpose and persistence, and encouraged them to embrace education, foster empathy, and commit to uplifting those around them. “True leadership lies in service to others in the pursuit of justice, opportunity, and equality for all. You are the architects of a brighter future,” she concluded.
