RAK Airport Experiences 28% Surge in Passenger Traffic in 2024

Ras Al Khaimah: RAK International Airport has reported a notable 28% increase in passenger numbers for 2024, as announced by Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ras Al Khaimah International Airport. This announcement highlights the UAE’s growing influence in the global air transport sector, driven by the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

According to Emirates News Agency, these advancements are a result of strategic initiatives under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and the efforts of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah. Their leadership has been instrumental in positioning Ras Al Khaimah as a pivotal aviation hub, bridging Eurasian, Arab, and African regions through the UAE.

The Civil Aviation Authority’s accomplishments have significantly boosted passenger and cargo transport, enhancing Ras Al Khaimah’s business, tourism, hospitality, services, and international trade sectors, which contribute to the region’s economic growth.

Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi highlighted the airport’s record-breaking passenger count of 661,765 in 2024, a 28% increase from 2023, with numbers nearly doubling since 2022. This growth is attributed to expanded airline services, new destinations, and a resurgence in travel demand. Departing passengers rose by 39%, totaling 293,815.

Cargo operations at the airport also saw a substantial increase, with a 97% surge in 2024, processing 6,652 tonnes of cargo. This exceeded forecasts by 190%, emphasizing the airport’s role in global supply chains amid the expansion of e-commerce and logistics.

The airport’s enhanced cargo capabilities, including the introduction of Fly Flyao cargo services, contributed to these results. Additionally, aircraft movements increased by 21.3%, with 7,440 flights recorded in 2024, reflecting greater connectivity and efficient infrastructure use.

The Civil Aviation Authority has made significant progress in service expansion, introducing Gulf currency exchange services in mid-2024 at both terminals, providing added convenience for travelers. The airport also strengthened its international connectivity by welcoming three new charter airlines: URAL AIR (Russia), ENTER AIR (Poland), and Hi-Sky (Romania).
