Ras Al Khaimah: Under the patronage and in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, the RAK Energy Summit 2024 commenced at the Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Centre. The event gathered high-profile attendees from the UAE and around the globe.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Summit and exhibition, hosted by Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, began with a keynote speech by H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi. He emphasized the critical role of energy in our lives and economy and the necessity for it to be sustainable, affordable, and reliable. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director-General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, highlighted the significance of the Summit in fostering energy transition dialogue and collaboration among international leaders.
The first day included a keynote address by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure on the updated UAE Energy Strategy 2050, followed by a presentation by the COP28 Presidency
on finance’s role in energy transition. Saif Ghubash, Assistant Under-Secretary at the Ministry, reiterated the UAE’s commitment to net zero by 2050 and detailed the strategic goals to achieve this vision, which include significant investments in renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency.
Industry leaders such as Khalid Al Marzooqi, CEO of Tabreed, and Salwa Al Maflahi, Aldar’s Executive Director for Sustainability, expressed their support for the Summit’s goals. Amel Chadli from Schneider Electric emphasized the importance of discussions on artificial intelligence and digital technology in enhancing energy efficiency and sustainable growth.
The Summit featured various speakers, including Yousif Al Ali from Etihad Water and Electricity, and included sessions on city-level energy transition approaches and sustainable mobility. The day’s events concluded with roundtable sessions led by the Arab Youth Center and Tabreed.
The second day will focus on future fuels, grids, and decarbonisation, with Suhai
l Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, providing federal insights. International speakers will also contribute, and the day will highlight Ras Al Khaimah’s energy transition plans, concluding with the UAE Ministry’s Energy Management Awards.
RAK Energy Summit 2024 is supported by entities such as Etihad Water and Electricity, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and the International Renewable Energy Agency, alongside over 15 local government entities in Ras Al Khaimah.
