SEDD organises panel discussion on statistics future in AI era


SHARJAH: Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) organised panel discussion about ‘Statistics Future in AI Era’ in participation with Sharjah Digital Department and Department of Statistics and Community Development. This session came in line with the Department’s plans to develop economic sectors, using the latest technologies and artificial intelligence, which contributes to consolidating the vision of Sharjah aimed at driving innovation and enhancing the use of technology to achieve sustainable development goals.

The session, which was attended by a group of experts and specialists, discussed the role of artificial intelligence in using statistical data, and the importance of benefiting from technological innovations in developing and analysing data more accurately and effectively. It should be noted that the discussions focused on how to use various data to support decision-making and achieve sustainable development.

Thus, the session highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence in impro
ving traditional statistical tools and transforming them into tools capable of dealing with huge amounts of complex data. Also, it dealt with the challenges facing the integration of these technologies into the statistical field and ways of cooperation between academic, governmental and private institutions to develop innovative strategies.

Additionally, this session come within SEDD’s concerns to promote the role of technology and artificial intelligence in various sectors, which contributes to improving the economic and social development process in the emirate, and placing it at the forefront of cities that rely on modern technology in making future decisions.

From her side, Noura Yousif bin Sandal, Deputy Director of Economic Planning and Studies Department at SEDD, said that organizing this session falls within the Department’s concerns about the importance of statistics and indicators in planning for the future and achieving the goals and objectives of sustainable development. This in turn requires st
atistical systems that are capable of growth and updating, in addition to their ability to train and research statistical methods and methodologies, and knowledge management, as the workshop content is considered one of the means that contribute to enhancing and developing scientific and research capabilities among researchers.

Moreover, bin Sandal stated that SEDD focuses to document and enhance mutual work with its partners in various fields, in order to improve the issuance of data, unify concepts, and support the principles of disclosure and transparency, in addition to spreading awareness of statistical work methodologies and methods in line with international recommendations and standards, in addition to the statistical standards followed in the field of preparing statistics in the era of artificial intelligence.

By the end of the session, the participants stressed the need to enhance cooperation between various local entities to employ artificial intelligence capabilities in the fields of statistics,
which contributes to achieving Sharjah’s development visions and meeting the changing needs of society
