The Iraqi Observatory For Press Freedoms Calls On The Governor Of Basra To Put An End To Ongoing Violations Against Journalists In The Province
The Iraqi Observatory for Press Freedoms in Basra renewed its demand to the head of the Supreme Security Committee, Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, and the Operations and Police Commands, to put an end to the continuous violations and abuses against journalists by some undisciplined security elements in the province.
The Iraqi Observatory for Press Freedoms stated in a statement that among the recent violations was the arrest of al-Fallujah satellite channel cameraman, “Ali Ahmed,” by some members of the Basra Rescue Police while he was covering the return of visitors from performing the Arbaeen rituals to Basra Governorate, under the pretext that he does not have a license that would allow him to photograph in public places.
The Iraqi Observatory for Press Freedoms stressed the importance of respecting and implementing the decisions issued by Prime Minister Muhammad Al-Sudani regarding facilitating the work of journalists in all governorates, including Basra, as well as adhering to the standards of good treatment and professional behavior stipulated in the Journalists’ Rights Law No. 21 of 2011, which guaranteed the journalist to practice his field work with complete freedom and transparency and the right to obtain information from the relevant official authorities.
