US President Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire Deal
Abu Dhabi: US President Joe Biden has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Gaza and Israel: In a statement issued by the White House last night, the US President officially announced that, after many months of intensive diplomacy by the United States, along with Egypt and Qatar, Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage deal.
According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement aims to halt the fighting in Gaza, deliver much-needed humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians, and reunite hostages with their families after more than 15 months in captivity. The US President emphasized the importance of the deal in his statement, highlighting the collaborative efforts of international partners in achieving this breakthrough.
The President outlined that he had proposed the plan’s details on May 31, 2024, and it received unanimous endorsement from the UN Security Council. He credited persistent US diplomacy for the successful negotiation of the ceasefire. Biden reiterated the need for peace and security, stating, “It is long past time for the fighting to end and the work of building peace and security to begin.”
